         EVANSVILLE, IND. -- On a night when J.B. Jones became the all-time career assists leader at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, there wasn't much to celebrate.
         No. 12-ranked Southern Indiana outrebounded SIUE 37-15 and outscored SIUE 15-0 in second-chance points. USI rallied to a 73-54 victory over the Cougars.
         Jones passes Keil Peebles (1975-1979) on the all-time assist list with his first assist of the night. Finishing with just three, Jones now has 440 in his three seasons as a Cougar.
         SIUE battled a strong-shooting Southern Indiana club that wouldn't let up. Geoff Van Winkle led all scorers with 18 points. All 18 of his points came on three-pointers. USI shot better than 50 percent in each half and converted 16 of 20 in the free throw line.
         Nick Arth and Mike Hardiek led SIUE in scoring with 14 points. Ty Johnson added 10 points. SIUE did all it could with its free throws, hitting all 14 attempts. From the field, however, the Cougars hit just 40 percent.
         Rashard Sullivan provided the most problems on the boards for USI, finishing with a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds.
         SIUE, now 13-12 overall and 8-9, is idle Saturday and finishes the regular season next week with Missouri-Rolla Thursday and Missouri-St. Louis Saturday. Game times on both days is 7:30 p.m.
