EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Senior night at Southern Illinois
University Edwardsville became a tale of two halves in an 86-71
victory over Missouri-St. Louis.
After falling behind 10-0 to start the game, SIUE roared back in
the first half to take a four-point lead 35-31 by halftime. SIEU
shot 32 percent in the first half, but the Cougars turned it around
in the second half by shooting 57 percent.
SIUE, 20-7 overall and 13-6, will now head to then Great Lakes
Valley Conference Tournament to face Bellarmine in the opening
round this Friday.
In Saturday's game, the only thing that kept the Cougars alive
in the first half was their three-point shooting. SIUE hit 6 of 11
in the first half.
Junior guard Whitney Sykes, who came off the bench on senior
night, led all scorers with 22 points, including five
three-pointers. Amber Shelton poured in 17. Allison Fogle scored 15
points, and senior Jamie Kennedy connected for a season-high 10
points.
Jennifer Martin powered the offense for UMSL with 18 points and
four blocks. Taylor Gagliano scored 12 for the Riverwomen, who
ended their season 6-20 overall and 2-7 in the GLVC.
