Colosimo Tosses NCAA No-Hitter

         ROMEOVILLE, ILL. - Kaitlin Colosimo tossed a no-hitter Friday as the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville softball team advanced in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Tournament.
         SIUE, ranked No. 5 nationally in the latest NFCA/NCAA Division II coaches poll, collected a 4-0 victory over Wayne State (Mich.) behind Colosimo's masterful second no-hitter of the season. The Cougars, 43-8, will advance to play the winner of Missouri-Rolla and Ferris State at 2 p.m. Saturday.
         The Cougar offense struggled in the early-going against Wayne State pitcher Molly Yetman, who retired the first nine hitters of the game.
         SIUE broke Yetman's no-hitter in the fifth inning when shortstop Kaeleigh Rousey blasted a leadoff solo home run over the left field fence.
         Colosimo then settled down to retire 14 batters in a row in the late innings. The sophomore left-hander struck out eight and improved her record to 25-3. Yetman's record, meanwhile, dropped to 23-4.
         SIUE added three insurance runs in the sixth inning as Lauren Zembruski, who recorded eight assists at third base, singled to left field. After Jodie Ohlau sacrificed her to second, Courtney Mall rapped a double down the right field line, scoring Zembruski. After an infield popup, Libby Lenart singled home Mall with a base hit to center field.
         The final run came off an infield error by Wayne State shortstop Lisa Seymour, which allowed pinch runner Katy Biggs to score.
         The no-hitter for Colosimo was the 23rd in the history of Cougar softball. The Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year also became the seventh pitcher in school history to record multiple no-hitters. The others were Sandy Montgomery, Becki Saylor, Cyndee McDaniel, Ramona Nunez, Deanna Smith and RyAnn Spann.
