Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Molly Carter hit a three-pointer and added a free throw with two seconds left as Drury edged Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 69-68 in women's college basketball Saturday.
A crowd of 1,338 witnessed Carter's heroics. Drury was down by three with only a few ticks left on the clock. She connected on the three-pointer and was fouled. The ensuing free throw decided the game for Drury, now 12-2 overall and 4-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The final seconds foiled what had been a strong comeback for the Cougars, now 10-3 and 3-2 in the GLVC. SIUE was down by nine points with seven minutes to play and had turned it into a three-point lead on free throws from Whitney Sykes and Laura Witherspoon.
Amber Shelton's 20 points was tops for the Cougars. Carter's four-point play matched Shelton with 20 points. Sara Bos added 14.
