Cougars Dial Up Defense Over Indianapolis

         EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball turned on its defense Thursday, handing Indianapolis a 64-50 defeat at the Vadalabene Center.
           Indianapolis, 10-5 overall and 4-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, shot 16 of 56 from the floor (28.6 percent) and just 2 of 19 (10.5 percent) from three-point range.
           The Cougars, now 8-5 overall and 2-4 in the GLVC, used a 12-point, 12-rebound effort from Doug Taylor to muscle past Indianapolis. Taylor shot 4 of 6 from the field. Fellow center Nikola Bundalo added eight points on 4-of-4 shooting in the paint.
           SIUE's outside game was equal to the task as T.J. Gray led all scorers with 15 points. Anthony Jones added 12 points for the Cougars, all on three-pointers.
           Tristan Rogers finished as the leading scorer for Indianapolis with 11 points off the bench.
           Four straight three-pointers at the end of the first half gave SIUE a 33-27 lead at halftime. SIUE pushed early in the second half with an 11-2 run over the Greyhounds over the first 5:37 of the period.
           SIUE's J.B. Jones became the first player in school history to grab 200 career steals, collecting three more Thursday.
           SIUE returns to the Vadalabene Center Saturday for a 3 p.m. matinee matchup against GLVC rival Saint Joseph's. The Pumas edged Quincy 69-67 Thursday.
