         EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Norman Plummer hit five straight free throws down the stretch and hit a game-tying shot as Southern Indiana nipped Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball in the final seconds Saturday 74-69.
           Plummer tied the score 69-69 with 1:25 left and then gave Southern Indiana the lead with a good foul shot to complete a three-point play. He then went on to sink four more free throws in the waning seconds.
           SIUE, now 8-8 overall and 2-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, was riding a wave of great shooting in the first half. SIUE was hitting 70 percent of its shots at one point in the game. The Cougars cooled to 53.2 percent (25-47) by the end of the game.
           T.J. Gray led SIUE in scoring with 17 points followed by Doug Taylor with 15. Asa Clayborne added 10 points, all in the first half.
           Southern Indiana, 10-7 and 4-5, gained the biggest advantage from the free throw line, converting 20 of 27 shots and committing 11 fouls. SIUE was 10 of 12 from the line and was assessed 21 fouls.
           Plummer led all scorers with 25 points and nine rebounds. USI used a clear advantage on the boards 39-19 to defeat the Cougars on second-chance point 25-7.
           SIUE next returns home to the Vadalabene Center Thursday to take on Missouri S&T. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
