Cougars Rout Illinois-Springfield

         EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's basketball started with a 23-2 run and didn't look back in an 89-47 rout over Illinois-Springfield.
         Amanda Levens picked up her first coaching victory at SIUE in a convincing fashion. Levens and the Cougars next travel for their first NCAA Division I opponent Missouri-Kansas City. Tip-off is 7 p.m. Wednesday at Swinney Recreation Center in Kansas City, Mo. On Saturday, it was all SIUE. Jenny Wuest and Jessie Stapleton led the Cougars with 17 points, followed by 11 points each from Melia Duncan, Madison Meade, and Ashley Bey. Kate Affourtit added 10 points in the victory.
         "We started the game strong and did a good job in keeping our intensity high," Levens said.
         At halftime, the Cougars went into the locker room with a 52-20 lead. Despite the huge advantage, Levens said she wanted to keep her team focused.
         "We focused on coming out in the second half strong," Levens said. "We looked to play to our strengths. It was a whole team effort throughout the game."
