MADISON, Wis. - No. 22-ranked Wisconsin gave Southern Illinois University Edwardsville a taste of top 25 men's basketball Tuesday in a 88-58 triumph at the Kohl Center.
SIUE, 1-3, completed its fourth game in five days with a loss to the defending Big Ten Conference champions. The Badgers improved to 2-0 in front of a home capacity crowd of 17,230.
Wisconsin led from start to finish, beginning with a 15-5 run to start the game. The Badgers extended that lead to 40-21 by halftime.
"We just didn't play like we have the last couple of games," said SIUE Coach Lennox Forrester.
SIUE's Barry Wellington led the Cougars with 12 points followed by 11 from Aaron Garriott and 10 more from Nikola Bundalo.
Wisconsin senior Marcus Landry was clearly a thorn in the Cougars' paws, posting 15 points, five blocks and five rebounds. Joe Leuer earned top scoring honors with 19 points.
The Badgers were equally as strong on both sides of the ball, shooting 59.3 percent from the field and holding SIUE to 38.2 shooting.
"I'm still proud of them. We're going to get back after it and get back to the way we were playing," said Forrester.
SIUE's next action will be Saturday at Ball State. Game time is 1 p.m. CT. Fans can always listen to the games live on WSIE 88.7 FM and 590 "The Fan" KFNS. Joe Pott will provide the play-by-play.
