SIUE Coasts Past Blackburn

          EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball turned its home opener into a scoring frenzy Tuesday in a 106-53 triumph over Blackburn College.
          SIUE, 2-4, recorded its biggest victory since the 1994-95 season when the Cougars defeated Sanford Brown by 89 points. It was the seventh largest victory in school history.
          Seven SIUE players scored in double figures led by 21 from Nikola Bundalo, who shot 10 of 13 from the field. He was followed by 15 from Barry Wellington, 15 from John Edmison, 13 from Terrance Williams, 11 from Denykco Bowles, 11 from Kevin Stineman and 10 from Aaron Garriott,
          The Cougars shot an astounding 68.3 percent from the field. SIUE's sharpshooting began in the first half when it hit 26 of 33 for 78.8 percent.
          "We just want to get better as a team," said SIUE Coach Lennox Forrester. SIUE hit 43 field goals for the game, including 10 three-pointers.
          The Cougar coach singled out Williams, a freshman center, who scored a career high and recorded three blocks in the regular season debut.
          "Terrance was strong on the defensive end and was finishing around the basket," said Forrester.
          SIUE's defense was stingy, holding the Beavers to 33.3 percent shooting. Tommy Baro and Rod Sykes each scored 12 points for Blackburn.
          SIUE is now idle until next Tuesday when it travels to Evansville, Ind., to take on the University of Evansville. The Purple Aces are coached by former SIUE head coach Marty Simmons. It also will be a homecoming for some of the SIUE coaching staff. Forrester was previously an assistant coach at Evansville, and SIUE assistant Mark Allaria was a starter for Evansville last in the 2001-2002 season.
