Chicago State Uses Second Chances

         CHICAGO, Ill. - Chicago State collected 21 offensive rebounds and garnered a 17-0 advantage on second-chance points Tuesday in a 69-56 win over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's basketball.
         SIUE fell to 1-6 and will look forward to Friday's home contest against Loyola. Game time is 6 p.m. at the Vadalabene Center.
         "They made plays down the stretch and we didn't," explained SIUE coach Amanda Levens.
         SIUE was behind by four points at halftime and tied Chicago State, also nicknamed the Cougars, with 9:05 to play when Brittany Imig hit a three-pointer. Chicago State took advantage of 23 SIUE turnovers and hits 16 of 23 from the free throw line in the second half. Chicago State held a 45-31 rebounding advantage with just less than half coming from the offensive boards.
         Chicago State guard Jasmin Dixon led all scorers with 25 points. She added five assists and four steals for the 4-4 Cougars.
         Ashley Bey powered SIUE's offense with 16 points, including 10-of-14 shooting from the free throw line. Jessie Stapleton tossed in a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Imig added 11 points, including three three-pointers.
         "Our effort was better this game than against Illinois-Chicago," said Levens.
         Chicago State kept the pressure on SIUE forward Jenny Wuest. The Cougar senior, averaging more than 18 points a game this season, was held to four points and three shots from the field.
         "Jenny didn't get good looks at the basket, but everybody else stepped up," noted Levens.
         SIUE's defense was strong at times, holding Chicago State to 33.3 percent shooting for the game.
         "Our aggressiveness was up and down at times," said Levens.
