Cougars Come Up Short at Central Arkansas

         CONWAY, Ark. - Despite a 20-point performance by Jenny Wuest, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville came up short against Central Arkansas 79-70.
         SIUE, 1-12, will be now be idle until Sunday, Dec. 28, when it travels to take on Louisiana-Monroe. Game time is 2 p.m.
         "Central Arkansas came out and played a more aggressive than we did today," said SIUE Coach Amanda Levens. "We needed to adjust to their defense quicker."
         The Cougars found themselves down by 13 at halftime on 10-of-34 shooting. UCA's Laura Beth Anderson converted a half-court shot as time expired to put Central Arkansas up 41-28.
         SIUE's offense turned around in the second half. SIUE hit 55.6 percent from the field (15 of 27) in the final 20 minutes.
         "We battled at times, but were our aggressiveness was inconsistent throughout the game." Levens said.
         SIUE cut the lead to as low as five points in the second half when Melia Duncan put in a layup plus a free throw with 10:59 to play. The Sugar Bears responded with the next nine points of the game.
         Jenny Wuest was SIUE's leader in scoring with 20 points and eight rebounds. Duncan came off the bench for a season-high 14 points, and Ashley Bey added 11.
         Chorcelle Taylor led Central Arkansas, 3-7, with 15 points and six rebounds. Destinee Rogers put in 12 points followed by Nakeia Guiden with 11 points.
         UCA edged the Cougars down low. The Sugar Bears outscored SIUE 48-32 in the paint for the game. "UCA was very athletic in the post, "Levens said.
