Three-Pointer Nips Cougars

         COMMERCE, Texas. - Genevieve Campbell scored a three-pointer with 13 seconds left as Texas A&M-Commerce nipped Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 66-65 in women's college basketball action.
         Jenny Wuest missed a final opportunity to give the Cougars the game in the waning seconds. SIUE dropped to 1-14 with the loss while Texas A&M-Commerce improved to 7-2.
         SIUE Coach Amanda Levens said the Cougars used its defense to create confidence on the offensive end of the floor.
         "We easily could have given up, but we kept battling," said Levens. "We fought throughout the game."
         Melia Duncan led SIUE off the bench with 16 points. The Cougars also picked up double digits from Brittany Imig with 15 and Wuest with 12.
         ` "Melia played well and has been improving every game," noted Levens.
         SIUE was behind for much of the second half but pulled ahead by two on a jumper by Madison Meade with 5:14 to play in the game. The two teams tied five times in the last six minutes of play. Duncan put SIUE ahead by one with 1:25 to play on a layup. After Wuest hit the back end of a two-shot free throw, Campbell came up big with the three-pointer.
         Nola Taylor led Texas A&M-Commerce with 15 points.
         "We need to use this one as a confidence builder," said Levens.
         SIUE begins the new year at the Vadalabene Center with a game Friday at 6 p.m. against Bowling Green.
