Cougars Fall Short to Loyola

         EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Despite 35 Loyola turnovers, the Ramblers collected a 56-42 victory Friday night over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in women's college basketball action at the Vadalabene Center.
         SIUE had its opportunities against Loyola but hit 16 of 69 shots from the field.
         "We got the shots we wanted. They just didn't fall," said SIUE coach Amanda Levens.
         The Cougars executed its game plan to a multitude of turnovers from Loyola, which improved to 4-2. SIUE fell to 1-7.
         "We need to take advantage of the turnovers and turned them into points," said Levens.
         Ashley Bey led SIUE in scoring with 10 points. Madison Meade scored nine, all on three-pointers, and Jessie Stapleton scored nine along with her team-high 12 rebounds.
         Loyola's Keisha Collins led all scorers with 14 points. Elyse VanBogaert followed with 12 points and 13 rebounds. VanBogaert had picked up her double-double in the first half alone.
         Levens said that while the team did well on the defense end, it was rebounding that pleased her.
         "We did a good job on the offensive end rebounding," said Levens. The Cougars finished with 17 offensive rebounds, turning them into 14 second-chance points.
         SIUE found itself down 29-20 by halftime and cut the lead to as much as four in the second half.
         "We need to get ready to bounce back tomorrow," said Levens.
         SIUE plays host to Northern Kentucky University in a 3 p.m. contest at the Vadalabene Center. The 3-0 Northern Kentucky Norse, members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, are the defending NCAA Division II national champions.
