Cougars Suffer Poor Shooting Night

          NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville shot 29.3 percent from the field Tuesday in a 70-47 loss at Lipscomb in men's college basketball play.
          SIUE, now 2-8, hit 17 of 58 for the game, including 7 of 22 from three-point range.
          SIUE Coach Lennox Forrester said the Cougars played well in spurts but need to put together a full 40-minute performance.
          "We just have to shoot the ball better on the road. We have to clean things up," Forrester said. "We have to be better focused when we're on the road or at home."
          The Cougars picked up a strong game from freshman Mark Yelovich, who led all scorers with 16 points. He hit three consecutive three-pointers a few minutes into the second half and hit a career-high five three-pointers.
          "He seemed like the only guy who was hitting shots," remarked Forrester.
          Barry Wellington was the only other Cougar scoring in double figures with 11 points.
          Lipscomb improved to 4-4 for the season behind a double-double from Adnan Hodzic, who posted 14 points and 12 rebounds. Michael Lusk also pumped in 14 points for the Bisons.
          The Bisons, who gave Lipscomb coach Scott Sanderson his 150th career victory, shot 41.8 percent from the field and hit 18 of 24 free throws.
          SIUE was down 25-14 at halftime but cut the lead to four points on a tip-in by John Edmison with 15:33. Edmison's tip-in completed an 11-0 run for the Cougars and put them within four at 29-25. Lipscomb then countered with a 16-0 run of its own to put distance between the two teams.
          Rebounding was not as much of a factor. SIUE actually outrebounded the Bisons on the offensive boards 10-9. Lipscomb won the overall rebounding 41-36.
          "I thought we went after the ball better tonight," said Forrester.
          The Cougars are now idle for 13 days and will reconvene for its next road trip in Chicago to face Loyola on Dec. 22. SIUE is at Bradley on Dec. 23.
