Hawks Edge Cougars in OT

           QUINCY, Ill. -- Excell Hardy made the putback and a free throw with three seconds left as Quincy topped Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 74-72 in men's Great Lakes Valley Conference basketball.
           Quincy edged the Cougars Tuesday in SIUE's first overtime game of the season. The Cougars, 14-10 overall and 7-9 in the GLVC, came back from a 33-28 deficit at halftime but weren't able to finish off Quincy at Pepsi Arena. Teh Hawks evened their record at 12-12 overall and 6-10 in the GLVC.
           T.J. Gray returned to form with a game-high 24 points and six three-pointers. Anthony Jones added 13 points off the bench, and Doug Taylor finished with 10.
           The Cougars shot 34 percent in the first half but bounced back to send the game into overtime. SIUE led by two with 1:43 left on a pair of free throws. Quincy's Andre Muse tied the game with 15 seconds left in regulation.
           In overtime, there were six lead changes as the two teams battled to the end. Hardy, who led Quincy with 19 points, grabbed a rebound off a missed shot from Muse and collected a foul shot for a two-point lead. Gray's three-point attempt at the buzzer for the Cougars missed the mark.
           Fresh off a five-game road trip in which the Cougars went 3-2, SIUE returns to the Vadalabene Center for a 7:30 p.m. game Thursday against Southern Indiana. SIUE's final three games of the regular season are at home.
