Cougars Ready For Drury, Rockhurst

Box Score

February 28, 2008

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- This week the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball team will host Drury and Rockhurst University as the regular season comes to a close.
SIUE, 15-10 overall and 8-9 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, is currently second in the GLVC West division. Without a post season bid yet, SIUE's games this week hold more importance.
Despite having two must win games in order to reach the post season, head coach Lennox Forrester is focused only on the game in front of the Cougars.
"One game at a time. The game that we have to win is tonight and that is our focus right now," said Forrester.
Tonight's night's game will see the Cougars take on the GLVC West Division No. 1 team, Drury University. The Panthers, 22-3 overall and 15-2 in the GLVC, have already clinched a playoff spot.
In their first meeting this season, Drury was able to overcome a Cougar team that buried 10 threes. Drury won 76-61. TJ Gray (Chicago) and Anthony Jones (Centralia) were the only Cougars to score in double figures. Gray led l all scorers with 23 points, while Jones added 14 points.
For tonight's game the Cougars will have to find a way to with stop or slow down the multiple scoring threat from Drury.
"They are a team that scores a lot of different way. [Collins] Harris has good low post presence and [Steven] Gum is a great shoot, plus other guys that can score. Our defense needs to be prepared to handle that," said Forrester.
Tip-off time for tonight's game is 7:30 pm in the Sam M. Vadalabene Center.
Immediately after the Drury game, SIUE will shift its focus to Rockhurst. The Hawks are fifth place in the GLVC west with a 9-16 overall and 5-12 GLVC record.
Going into the first meeting between SIUE and Rockhurst, SIUE had a five game winning streak going. Despite Anthony Jones' 22 point and TJ Gray's 17 point efforts, the Cougars saw their winning streak snapped. Rockhurst won the game 70-63.
SIUE and Rockhurst will do battle on Saturday at 3:00 pm in the Sam M. Vadalabene Center.
