KENOSHA, Wis. -- Nikola Bundalo shot a perfect 8 for 8 from the field Saturday as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball picked up its first Great Lakes Valley Conference road victory with a 99-84 triumph at Wisconsin-Parkside.
Bundalo was one of five players to score in double figures Saturday. T.J. Gray, SIUE's all-time single-season leader in three-pointers, added three more and finished as the Cougars' leading scorer with 20 points.
SIUE, now 12-9 overall and 5-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, turned in another outstanding performance from the field. The Cougars shot 57 percent overall and 48 percent from three-point range. SIUE's 12 three-pointers provided the necessary winning cushion.
UW-Parkside's LaVontay Fenderson more doubled his season average with 33 points. The Ranger forward hit 12 of 18 from the field and 8 of 9 from the free throw line.
SIUE hit the boards for a decisive 36-25 advantage. With 11 offensive rebounds, SIUE outscored its opponents 16-2 on second-chance points.
The Cougars were solid on offense with six different players hitting three-pointers and all but two players shooting less than 50 percent from the field. Anthony Jones finished with four three-pointers and 14 points. J.B. Jones scored 11, and Doug Taylor kept the inside game thriving with 14 points.
SIUE held a 17-point advantage at halftime and pushed the lead as high as 24 points. UWP made an effort to get back into the game with a 24-5 run midway through the second half, cutting the lead to five points. Gray delivered back-to-back three-pointers with 7:15 left as SIUE moved toward victory.
The Cougars continue their five-game road trip this Saturday at Missouri-St. Louis. Tio-off time is 7:30 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building.
