UWP Outmatches Cougars 74-63

           KENOSHA, Wis. -- Wisconsin-Parkside combined for 10 three-pointers Saturday in a 74-63 defeat over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
           UWP and SIUE now both have identical 14-7 women's basketball records this season. UWP, a member of the GLVC East Division, holds an 8-5 league record while the Cougars, a member of the GLVC West Division, are 7-6 in conference play.
           The Rangers finished with four players in double figures, led by 18 points from Kayla Ming. Allison Smaglik provided 14 points and 13 rebounds. Amanda Gibson amd Chelsey Schadler followed with 16 and 12, respectively.
           SIUE had slight foul trouble in the first half with starter Elyse Morris gaining two fouls in the first six minutes of the game. Amber Shelton, who finished with a game-high 22 points to go with her 12 rebounds, also picked up two fouls with nearly four minutes to go in the first half.
           The Cougars got a big lift from Kara Frandsen off the bench. The Edwardsville freshman scored a season-high 14 points for the game, including 12 in the first half.
           SIUE struggled with three-point shooting in the second half. The Cougars hit just 1 of 12 attempts in the final 20 minutes and 4 of 23 for the game. The Rangers, meanwhile, countered with 10-of-25 shooting from three-point range.
           The road trip continues this upcoming Thursday at Missouri-St. Louis. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building.
