EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer team got the 2008 season off to a good start with a 1-0 exhibition victory over Missouri-St. Louis Tuesday night at Korte Stadium.
It was a great debut for SIUE Coach Kevin Kalish, who took over the reigns of the highly-successful Cougar soccer program from Ed Huneke. The Cougars made sure Kalish's opening game was a winning one.
SIUE forward Bob Ridder (Quincy) scored the game's winning goal at 25:13 from 10 yards out on an assist from Tim Lindsay. SIUE narrowly outshot the Tritons 10-9.
The Cougars next face Bradley in an Saturday exhibition game at the Scott Gallagher Soccer Complex in St. Louis. The Braves enter the contest wit the Cougars as the No. 21-ranked team in the preseason NSCAA/NCAA Division I poll. Game time is 7 p.m.
