MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Wisconsin-Milwaukee went up by two goals six minutes into the second half and held off Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 2-1 in men's college soccer action Saturday.
SIUE, now 3-3, managed a penalty kick goal by Bob Ridder in the 66th minute to cut UW-Milwaukee's lead in half. The Cougars were outshot 14-12 but had plenty of opportunities with six corner kicks to UWM's zero.
"We had moments where we played well, and there were others where we weren't so sharp," said SIUE Coach Kevin Kalish.
The Panthers, 3-2-2, jumped ahead at 31:22 when Eric Frazier connected from the 18-yard line on a pair of passes from Adam Skalecki and Peter Sanger. Frazier would help put the Panthers up by two at 51:39 when his pass to Robert Refai scored from 10 yards out.
"They were a very good, organized team," said Kalish. "It came down to finishing your chances and they did that tonight."
Both SIUE goalkeeper Nick Frasca and UWM goalkeeper Grant Fernstrum finished with four saves each.
SIUE now heads back into Illinois to face Loyola. Game time Sunday is 3 p.m.
