EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Seattle grabbed 25 offensive rebounds and took advantage of 23 Southern Illinois University Edwardsville turnovers in a 71-51 win at the Vadalabene Center.
SIUE men's basketball dropped to 7-15 while the Redhawks improved to 13-6 with their second win in a week against the Cougars.
SIUE Coach Lennox Forrester said the Cougars need to improve on the defensive glass.
"We had some lazy passes and need to be better on the offensive glass," said Forrester.
The Cougars were outrebounded by the visiting Redhawks 48-27. More than half of Seattle's rebounds came on the offensive glass.
Seattle also was opportunistic against the Cougars. The Redhawks scored nearly half of their points off SIUE turnovers.
"We have some things we need to clean up. We need to keep getting better and get ready for Robert Morris," Forrester said.
SIUE outshot Seattle from the field. The Cougars hit 37.5 percent from the field while Seattle's offense struggled to 33.8 percent shooting. Seattle shot better than 65 percent against the Cougars just a week ago in Seattle.
Aamir McCleary and Aaron Garriott tied for the SIUE lead in scoring with 14 points each.
Seattle's Michael Wright turned in a double-double with game highs of 18 points and 15 rebounds. Austen Powers added 16 points and nine rebounds for the Redhawks.
The Cougars will look to rebound Tuesday against Robert Morris. Tip-off time is 7:30 p.m. at the Vadalabene Center.
