Toledo Shoots Past Cougars

         TOLEDO, Ohio - An early 17-point advantage for Toledo launched the Rockets past Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 80-58 in women's college basketball action. Toledo, 6-7, started the game with a 21-4 run in the first nine minutes of the first half.
         "We didn't come out strong at the beginning of the game," SIUE Coach Amanda Levens said. "It was very similar to the (Friday's) Bowling Green game."
         SIUE, 1-16 overall, cut the lead to 13, 32-19 with an Ashley Bey (Chicago) jumper with 3:49 remaining in the first half.
         "Our defense was not consistent tonight," Levens said. "We were affected by the turnovers we committed in the first half."
         Toledo led by as many as 28 points in the second half. The Rockets out rebounded the Cougars 49-27 for the game. Toledo's bench outscored SIUE 35 to 15 for the game.
         Jenny Wuest (Madison, Wis.) led the Cougars in scoring with 13 points followed by Madison Meade (Auburn, Calif.) with 10 points. Jessie Stapleton (Chillicothe) led the Cougars with eight rebounds for the game. "Jenny Wuest had nice game. She was getting the shots, but they just didn't fall for her tonight," Levens said. Toledo's Naama Shafir led all scorers with 17 points. Allie Clifton added 14 points and nine rebounds and Lisa Johnson put in 12 points off the bench.
         The Cougars will be idle until Jan. 14 when they play host to Robert Morris at the Vadalabene Center.
