Cougars Wear Down St. Xavier

          EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Four players finished in double figures Thursday as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville enjoyed an 80-72 victory over St. Xavier at the Vadalabene Center.
          It was the first home game for the Cougars in more than a month. SIUE has now won three of its last four games.
          Barry Wellington led the Cougars with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting. SIUE shot 54.9 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range.
          SIUE Coach Lennox Forrester wasn't completely pleased with his team's performance.
          "We haven't capitalized on our leads," said Forrester. "We didn't show any emotion and excitement of being at home."
          Mark Yelovich poured in 18 points for the Cougars, including a pair of three-pointers. Aaron Garriott added 15 points. John Edmison scored 10 points off the bench.
          St. Xavier held the a seven-point lead in the first half with seven minutes to play. SIUE went on a 14-4 run to end the half, grabbing the lead by halftime 36-33.
          St. Xavier, led by 17 points each from Julian Scott and Paris Davis, would never close the gap in the second half. Also nicknamed the Cougars, St. Xavier shot just 40.7 percent from the field.
          SIUE struggled with 27 turnovers in the game to St. Xavier's 24.
          "We have to have all five guys on the floor giving a better effort on a consistent basis," added Forrester.
