Box Score

Oct. 11, 2009

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville went to overtime Sunday for the third time in the last six games only to fall 1-0 on an opportunistic goal by Cleveland State.

SIUE's record dropped to 4-6-1 while Cleveland State claimed a home-field victory and improved to 4-5-3.

Cleveland State's Aaron Adkins scored from 10 yards out past SIUE goalkeeper Scott Meyer at 94:24. Slavisa Ubiparipovic was credited with the assist.

SIUE Coach Kevin Kalish said all his young team can do to get better is to continue training.

"We have to find a way to score goals," said Kalish.

SIUE certainly wasn't without opportunities against Cleveland State. The Cougars outshot the Vikings 11-9, including an 8-4 edge in the second half.

Both CSU goalkeeper Nick Harpel and SIUE's Meyer finished with five saves. "He was good again. He was very solid," added Kalish of Meyer. The sophomore goalkeeper holds a goals against average of 1.06 for the season.

The Cougars now return home for two games at Korte Stadium this week. SIUE takes on Centenary at 7 p.m. Thursday and IPFW on Saturday at 7 p.m.
