EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Lipscomb's Josh Slater scored all 16 of his points in the second half, including two free throws with 10 seconds left, as the Bisons topped Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 67-64 at the Vadalabene Center.

SIUE, 0-5, had a chance in the waning moments to tie the score but missed a pair of off-balance three-pointers to end the game. Lipscomb picked up its first win of the season in five games.

SIUE men's basketball Coach Lennox Forrester said easy baskets and missed opportunities on the free throw line was an issue.

"If we had converted that, maybe it wouldn't have been like that down the stretch."

SIUE sophomore forward Mark Yelovich turned in the best offensive game of his brief career with his first double-double. He scored 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Both were game highs.

"Whenever he's like that, you like to get the ball to him," said Forrester.

The Cougars looked in control early with a 37-31 lead by halftime as Stephen Jones scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half. SIUE led by as much as 12 points with 6:07 to play.

The Bisons looked inside for center Adnan Hodzic, who posted up his defenders for a team-high 23 points and added 11 rebounds. Brandon Brown also added 14 before fouling out late in the game. Slater was scoreless in the first half and then hit 4 of 8 in the second half as well as 8 of 10 from the free throw line.

SIUE shot 53 percent in the first half but cooled to 29.6 percent in the second half.
