Nov. 7, 2009

Box Score

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Melia Duncan's 20 points and 11 rebounds led the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's basketball team to a 70-58 victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis in exhibition play Saturday night at the Vadalabene Center.

"We knew we were going to get a good effort from UMSL," SIUE Coach Amanda Levens said.

Sophomore Madison Meade added 14 points followed by senior Ashley Bey and freshman Raven Berry scoring 13 each.

"Melia exemplifies what we want out of our players this season," Levens said. "I was happy with our production off the bench from Raven and Melia."

SIUE's scoring came from several areas. The Cougars didn't have to depend on one person to provide the offense.

"We were pretty balanced overall tonight," Levens said. "It is big for us to have options to turn to down the stretch this season."

SIUE's defense held UMSL to 30 percent shooting and just 10 percent shooting from three-point range. Lindsey Ransome led the Tritons with 14 points off the bench.

"We finished the half and finished the game strong, Levens said. "I was glad that we knocked down shots when it mattered."

SIUE will begin the regular season next Friday against Morehead State at the Vadalabene Center. Game time is 7 p.m.
