EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Indiana State used a 16-3 run midway through the second half and went on to defeat Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 65-49 in women's college basketball at the Vadalabene Center.

Indiana State remained undefeated through seven games while the Cougars fell to 2-7. SIUE now heads to the road to play Wichita State this Friday. Game time is 12:05 p.m.

SIUE was down 29-26 at the end of the half. The Cougars outrebounded the Sycamores 18-15 in the first half and converted 12 of 15 free throws in keeping it close.

The Cougars came out on fire to open the second half. Raven Berry scored on a pair of jumpers and Madison Meade hit a three-pointer from the corner to put SIUE up 35-29 with 17:03 to play.

Indiana State regained the lead with four straight baskets, including one from Kelsey Luna. Luna, who came into the contest averaging 19.5 points per game, led the Sycamores with 11 points. Deja Mattox added 10 points.

"I think we can learn a lot from this game. I think we can learn from them how they kept their composure," said SIUE Coach Amanda Levens. "They are a very good team and have a number of good individual players."

Levens said Indiana State's run midway through the first half was a combination of problems. SIUE's offense slowed down just as Indiana's offense began to pick up the pace. Indiana State finished the game shooting 51.1 percent from the field.

"We let our offense affect our defense," said Levens.

Ashley Bey led all scorers with 14 points and five assists. Berry and Sydney Stahlberg added 10 each.

Stahlberg grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Levens said Stahlberg, a junior from Morton, has been a great addition to the roster.

"She gives us toughness. She will give up her body for a rebound or a charge," said Levens.
