HOUSTON, Texas - Houston Baptist posted a Texas-sized first half Friday and collected a 73-59 victory over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in women's college basketball.

The Cougars now return home for its final two games of the 2008-09 season. Senior day is Sunday at 1 p.m. when the Cougars entertain North Dakota. The season ends Tuesday in a 7 p.m. game against South Dakota.

On Friday, the Huskies took control with a 14-4 run to start the game and steadily extended its lead to 25 points by halftime.

"Houston Baptist came out aggressive in the beginning and put us on our heels," said SIUE Coach Amanda Levens

Houston Baptist, 8-19, shot 19 of 32 from the field in the first half. The Huskies collected all six of their three-pointers over the first 20 minutes.

SIUE, 5-22, ramped up the defense in the second half, holding the Huskies to 28 percent shooting. However, Levens said, once the Cougars had regained their confidence they were down by too much to make a comeback.

"We did a good job of not giving up on the game," said Levens.

Sydney Winslow led SIUE in scoring with 14 points. Jenny Wuest added 12 points and a team-leading eight rebounds.

Megan Morris powered the Huskies with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting. She also converted all eight of her free throw attempts.
