Mall, Cougars Top Austin Peay

         CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville softball improved to 32-7 Friday with a 7-1 victory over Austin Peay.
         Game two of Friday's scheduled doubleheader was cancelled due to wet conditions at Lady Govs Field.
         The Cougars next travel to Springfield, Mo., for a single make-up game with Missouri State Monday. Game time is 4 p.m.
         SIUE delivered against another future Ohio Valley Conference opponent Friday. The Cougars are now 7-1 this season against OVC teams. SIUE plays four more games against OVC teams this season with one against Morehead State and three against UT Martin.
         In Friday's game, the Cougars grabbed a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Courtney Mall led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kasey Schlafke, who continues to lead the nation in sacrifices. After Lauren Zembruski was hit by a pitch from APU starter Ashley Elrod, 3-8, Nicole Beecher drove home the game's first run with a single through the left side. Lindsay Longfellow followed with another single and moved to second on an error on APU left fielder Tiffany Smith. Both Zembruski and Beecher scored on the play.
         Mall made it 5-0 in the fourth with her second home run of the season. It was a two-run blast over the right field fence.
         Brittany Williams broke up SIUE hurler Erika Taylor's shutout bid in the bottom of the fifth with her second home run of the season. Taylor, 15-4 overall, outdueled three APU pitchers. She fanned nine and didn't walk a batter.
