Schlafke, Rumpf Homer in SIUE Win

         INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Kasey Schlafke and Chaleen Rumpf each blasted a solo home run Wednesday in a 5-3 victory over IUPU-Indianapolis.
         SIUE softball is now 33-8 after falling in the second game of the day, a 4-1 defeat at the hands of future Ohio Valley Conference rival Morehead State. Both the IUPUI game and the Morehead State games were played in the IUPUI Softball Complex.
         Katie Watkinson improved her pitching record to 4-0 with 5 2/3 innings of work. Erika Taylor came out of the bullpen for her second save of the season, retiring all four IUPUI batters she faced.
         SIUE scored early on IUPUI starter Samantha Bumbaugh, 1-12. Courtney Mall, Schlafke and Lauren Zembruski led off the game with back-to-back-to-back hits. Zembruski drove home Mall with a double. Lindsay Longfellow grabbed the other RBI, scoring Schlafke on a sacrifice fly.
         After the Jaguars scored once in the first, Schlafke put SIUE back up by two runs again with her fourth home run of the season.
         The Cougars wouldn't score again until the sixth when Longfellow recorded the eventual game-winning RBI. Her RBI single would drove home Zembruski, who was 3 for 3 for the game.
         Rumpf would add her third home run of the season in the seventh. Her homer to left field would come with two outs.
         In the nightcap, SIUE scored its only run in the first inning when Mall scored on an infield out by Longfellow.
         Morehead State pitcher Alex Gjevre outdueled SIUE lefty Kaitlin Colosimo. Gjevre improved to 18-7 overall after a five-hit, seven-strikeout performance. Colosimo struck out six and fell to 14-4.
         Morehead State improved to 25-14 overall with its biggest hit coming in the first inning when third baseman Rebecca Butler delivered a two-run home run.
         SIUE continues on the road this weekend at another future OVC opponent. The Cougars and UT Martin play a Saturday doubleheader with the first pitch set for 1 p.m. in Martin, Tenn.
