DAYTON, Ohio - Despite outshooting its opponents 15-11, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer dropped a 3-0 decision Friday night at Dayton.
The Cougars would command the lead in shots but didn't convert their opportunities like Dayton. SIUE fell to 2-4-1 while the Flyers evened their record at 3-3-1.
Jack Twellman led the Cougars with five shots, including two which were on-goal. Dayton goalkeeper Josh Lavallee recorded two saves in the shutout.
Dayton opened the scoring in the 15th minute as Jack Pearson headed the ball past SIUE goalkeeper Scott Meyer. Ryan Handbury and Tommy Watkins provided two quick passes from less than 12 yards from the goalmouth before Pearson headed the ball in.
Dayton held a 5-4 shot advantage in the first half and came out of the locker room with a quick second-half goal when Peter Chilemena slid the ball in the goal on a pass from Handbury.
Isaac Kissi would put the Flyers up 3-0 as he scored off the second touch of a free kick. Sonny Renner collected the assist.
SIUE will look to rebound Sunday and will have a major test. The Cougars travel to Chicago Sunday for a 1 p.m. game at Northwestern.
