EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - A.J. Smith was the highlight for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in a 29-9 loss to Central Missouri in collegiate wrestling at the Vadalabene Center.
Smith, a 197-pounder, earned a takedown in overtime to defeat UCM's Doug Thompson 9-7.
Dustin Young was the only other winner for the Cougars, accepting a forfeit at 125 pounds.
SIUE fell to 0-12-1 for the season. Central Missouri improved its dual meet record to 3-5.
"We need more matches like A.J.'s. We needed guys in there to have urgency," said SIUE Coach David Ray.
Central Missouri won eight matches, including four matches by one or two points. Matt Bailes provided the most team points for the Mules with a pin at 174 pounds in 1:27.
"We're getting better and making improvements. And that's the main thing," said Ray.
