EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Raven Berry and Melia Duncan each scored 16 points as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville defeated Robert Morris (Springfield) 66-55 in an exhibition women's basketball game Thursday night at the Vadalabene Center.
The Cougars will have their final game of the season next Wednesday. SIUE entertains Cal State Bakersfield in a 7 p.m. contest.
On Thursday, SIUE controlled the tempo of the game by taking a 10-point lead at halftime. SIUE got its whole team into the act with all nine players scoring at least one basket.
"We wanted to get everyone involved and keep everybody ready," said SIUE Head Coach Amanda Levens.
Michaela Herrod joined Berry and Duncan in double figures with 10 points. Sydney Stahlberg led all players with 11 rebounds.
"I thought we did enough to win. We just had two tough games where we were on the losing side," Levens said. "Mentally, they are a little tired. Three games in five days is tough."
Robert Morris shot 37 percent from the field and 20 percent from three-point range against the Cougars. Latoya Gipson powered the Eagles' attack with 15 points. Jorita Wright added 11 points and a grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
"I'm proud of our progress individually. You can look at the freshmen and their growth this season," added Levens.
