COLUMBIA, Mo. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville wrestling dropped a pair of matches to Missouri and Chattanooga Saturday night.
SIUE, 2-11, was defeated by Chattanooga 35-10 and Missouri 48-0.
SIUE Head Coach David Ray said the Cougars now look forward to a dual match at Illinois. The Cougars take on the Fighting Illini next Friday night at 7 in Champaign.
"We just have to get ready for Illinois," he said.
On Saturday, Michael Dace and John Petrov provided the only victories of the day in the loss to Chattanooga. Dace collected a first-period pin at 174 pounds over Chattanooga's Levi Clemons in 2 minutes, 2 seconds. Petrov amassed 2 minutes, 54 seconds of riding time in his major decision win over Adam Wilson at 133 pounds.
"Petrov did a nice job in match," said Ray. Petrov won the match 12-3.
Ray said Derrick Pousson perhaps wrestled the best of anyone but came away with a pair of losses. He suffered an injury near his eyes that required quick stitching so he could continue.
"That really took him out of the match," Ray said. Pousson dropped a 5-3 decision to Chattanooga's Dean Pavlou and Missouri Kyle Bradley 9-3.
