IOWA CITY, Iowa - A crowd of 6,486 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena and viewers of the Big Ten Network watched Iowa defeat Southern Illinois University Edwardsville wrestling Friday night 49-0.

Iowa, ranked No. 7 in the latest NWCA National poll, ran its record to 8-0 behind five pins and two technical falls.

SIUE Head Coach David Ray said the match was good exposure for his young team. Friday's match was the second of four Big Ten teams SIUE will face this season. For his team, Ray said there is knowledge to gain from this loss.

"As a team you have to learn to battle tougher. And second, you can't let people have position and control," he said.

David Devine, at 285 pounds, produced the closest match in the final match of the night. He was bested by Blake Rasing 7-4.

Kyle Lowman and newcomer Michael Dace also avoided the string of pins. Lowman lost to Derek St. John 9-2 at 157 pounds. Ethen Lofthouse defeated Dace 14-7 at 174 pounds.

SIUE, 1-7, now heads to the Indiana Duals where it has three dual meet matches set for Sunday. The meet begins for the Cougars at 1 p.m. ET with Gardner-Webb. It continues at 3 p.m. ET with Cleveland State and closes out at 5 p.m ET with host Indiana.
