Box Score DES MOINES, Iowa - Drake scored two first-half goals and went on a 2-0 victory over SIUE in Missouri Valley Conference men's soccer action.
The Cougars fell to 7-5-3 overall and 1-2-1 in MVC play while Drake remained undefeated in three MVC contests and are now 10-4-1 overall.
SIUE Head Coach Kevin Kalish said the Cougars had opportunities but found themselves too far back to come from behind.
"That's tough to come back from two goals down on the road," he said.
Jordan Kadlec recorded the shutout for the Bulldogs in goal with three saves. SIUE's Scott Meyer went the distance in goal for SIUE and picked up five saves.
Erik Boyer scored what would be the game winner at 26:58 when his shot off a deflection hit the net. Matt Kuhn and Charles Schwartz were credited with assists on the play. Drake added a goal in the 41st minute when Matt Kuhn put one in the corner of the net after the Bulldogs pulled the ball away from the Cougar defense.
"We were good in a lot of parts of the game," said Kalish. "We just lack that finishing touch."
Kalish credited Ryan Bauer and Patrick Clendenny for strong play Wednesday. "Some guys stepped up, but we didn't have enough to overcome that two-goal deficit.
SIUE now returns to Korte Stadium for Senior Day Saturday against No. 6-ranked Creighton. Game time is 7 p.m. Kalish said the Cougars are treating the Bluejays just like any other MVC game.
"Every game is big. We need to continue to try to get some points. Our goal is to get into the MVC Tournament," he added.
