Box Score CINCINNATI - Despite Jack Twellman's team-leading eighth goal of the season, SIUE dropped a 2-1 decision Tuesday at Cincinnati.
The loss halted a three-game winning streak for the Cougars, which now stand at 6-3-2. SIUE next opens the Missouri Valley Conference season Saturday against Evansville. Game time for the Homecoming celebration at Korte Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
Twellman scored early in the contest Tuesday. The goal came at 16:48 with an assist from Brian Groark.
"Jack made a sharp turn, beat his last defender and then scored from 25 yards out," said SIUE Head Coach Kevin Kalish. "It was one of his best goals of the season."
The Bearcats, 4-6-1, answered with the tying goal less than three minutes later. D.J. Albert scored his second goal of the season at 19:15 on an assist from Sam Klosterman.
Kalish said he was disappointed with how the team handled the 10 minutes after scoring the game's first goal. "We essentially let them back in the game," he said. The Cougars coach added that his team will need to refocus as the conference season looms ahead.
Cincinnati scored the eventual game winner at 35:47 as Matt Remaley connected on his second goal of the season.
Kalish said the Cougars had opportunities in the second half. "I thought we could have tied it up a couple of times but we weren't able to get it done," he added.
