CHICAGO - Six SIUE wrestlers competed at the prestigious Ken Kraft Midlands Championship, hosted by Northwestern, but did not make it out of day one of competition.
Steve Ross, a 157-pounder, won the only match for the Cougars on the mat with a 7-4 triumph over Northwestern's Dylan Marriot. Deshoun White, a 174-pounder, also had his arm raised when he accepted a medical forfeit against Lehigh's Kevin Bailey.
The 43 teams competing for the Midlands Championship continue Friday. Host Northwestern was the early leader in the tournament with 48 points followed by top-ranked Iowa with 41.5.
