Jordan Barnes Pushes Men's Soccer Past Northwestern 1-0

Box Score

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Junior Jordan Barnes scored in the 70th minute to push the SIUE men's soccer team past visiting Northwestern 1-0 in an exhibition match Sunday night from Korte Stadium.

"It was a good team performance," said SIUE Head Coach Kevin Kalish. "I was real pleased with all 28 guys. In the first half we were real sharp. And in the second half, we did what we needed to do."

Barnes put the Cougars on the scoreboard when he one-touched a perfect cross from Jared Tejada past Northwestern goalkeeper Jonathan Harris at 69:35. Tejada ran around his defender and crossed the ball to the left from the end line.

The goal came on only the second shot on goal for SIUE, both coming in the second 40-minute half. The Cougars finished the game with 15 total shots, six of which hit the goal.

Northwestern ended with six shots forcing SIUE's goalkeepers Scott Meyer and Nick Collico to make two saves and one save, respectively.

The Cougars close the exhibition portion of the schedule Friday in a border battle at Saint Louis University. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
