Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. - SIUE men's soccer closed out the exhibition season Friday night with a 1-0 loss at rival Saint Louis.
The Cougars now turn to the regular season as they begin with a travel date at Tulsa Aug. 27.
"There were a few positives we can take from this match. A couple of players played some decent minutes and got some good experience," said SIUE Head Coach Kevin Kalish. "Overall, I'm fairly disappointed with the performance."
SLU picked up the only score of the contest at 73:51 as Alex Sweetin score unassisted. Sweetin connected from 19 yards out at the top of the box on a restart after a foul.
The Cougars held their own against the Billikens and were outshot just 10-8. Jared Tejada led SIUE with three shots. Jack Twellman added two. Scott Meyer went the distance in goal and finished with three saves.
"We have to get healthy. We came out of this game with a lot of injuries," said Kalish.
SLU's Nick Shackeford and Mark Pais shared time in goal for the shutout and had two saves each. Mike Roach led SLU in shots with three.
