SIUE Wrestlers See Improvements Cougars Pick Up Win Over Truman EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - SIUE wrestling Head Coach David Ray saw marked improvements in his squad Sunday.

The Cougars are now 4-11 overall after defeating Truman 32-12 and falling to Missouri 42-0 and Eastern Michigan 38-6.

"The Truman win was a big turnaround from the last time," said Ray.

Both teams gave up a forfeit, and SIUE picked up pins from Brendan Murphy at 133 pounds and Gabe Hocum at 174 pounds. Murphy pinned Daniel Karlskin in 1 minute, 5 seconds. Hocum pinned Joshua Wells in 3:51.

The Cougars were not as fortunate against the No. 15-ranked Missouri Tigers. Missouri overpowered SIUE 42-0 but did not come away with any pins. The Tigers were 28-2 overall in their matches against SIUE, Eastern Michigan and Truman.

`We wanted to win a match against Missouri somewhere and somehow, but we weren't able to pick up a win," Ray said.

The Cougars closed out the event with a loss to Eastern Michigan. Ray said he felt it could have been closer had the Cougars wrestled a little better at some of the middle weights. SIUE did pick up decisions from Murphy at 133 pounds and Cole Brandt at 184 pounds.

"That's what we really want to work for. We need to make those gains and make improvements for the program," said Ray.
