Box Score EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Heavy storms halted Wednesday's Missouri Valley Conference men's soccer game between Evansville and SIUE.
With 9:36 remaining to play in the game, the SIUE men's soccer team fell 1-0. Officials called the game due to continued rain and lightning at Evansville's McCutchan Stadium.
SIUE, 10-5 overall and 2-2 in the MVC, held a clear edge in shots with a 13-7 advantage. Christian Volesky, the reigning MVC Offensive Player of the Week, collected four shots for the Cougars. Jared Tejada, Devon Newport, and Peter Kelly each added two shots for SIUE.
Evansville, 8-5 overall and 2-1 in the MVC, scored the game's only goal at 75:44 when Nate Opperman scored his third goal of the season on a pass from Mark Gonzalez.
John Berner finished with three saves in goal for the Cougars. Eric Teppen had four saves for the Purple Aces.
The Cougars return to Korte Stadium Saturday for their final home game of the season at 7 p.m. Senior Night festivities will take place as SIUE entertains Drake.
