Cougars Sweep Past IPFW

Box Score

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Raven Berry recorded her second double-double against IPFW and third of the season Saturday as SIUE downed the Mastodons 61-54 at the Vadalabene Center.

Berry led SIUE women's basketball with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Teammate Tierny Austin and CoCo Moore added 16 and 15 points, respectively. Moore was one rebound shy of her first double-double.

It was the second time this season that the Cougars, now 6-4, defeated the Mastodons, now 3-6. SIUE repeated a seven-point win over IPFW after opening the season with a 74-67 win in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Buscher said with so little time between games she wanted to freshen up the looks her team gave IPFW. In the course of a non-conference season, Buscher said this was the kind of game the Cougars needed.

"This game was great for us. We had different things to tackle tonight," said Buscher.

The Cougars held strong by going to the basket and drawing fouls. Berry was 10 of 13 from the line herself. Moore was 7 of 8. As a team, SIUE was 22 of 29 from the charity stripe.

SIUE equaled its season low in turnovers with 10 and won the rebounding battle 47-32. The Cougars have won the rebounding battle by double digits in four out of their last five games.

Buscher said her team took advantage of the scouting report the coaching staff provided.

"I thought our players did a great job paying attention to the scout and the detail part of it," Buscher said.

SIUE led at halftime 28-23 despite IPFW spending much of its time in a zone defense. Moore helped provide some much-needed spark off the bench.

"She is a tremendous athlete. Once she gets to the basket, it's kind of fun to watch her. She gets up over people. She makes plays that are 'wow' plays," said Buscher.

Amanda Hyde led IPFW in scoring with 15 points. She shot 5 of 16 from the field.

"I thought that young lady worked her tail off for all of those. Give credit to our team, we stepped up late," Buscher said.

The Cougars now head to the road for a single game next Sunday. SIUE travels to Bloomington, Ind., to take on the Indiana Hoosiers in a 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT contest.
