EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Forfeits at 125 pounds and heavyweight kept SIUE from having a big night at the Vadalabene Center.

SIUE dropped a 25-15 dual match to South Dakota State and a 31-13 decision to Indiana. SIUE fell to 4-13 overall. SDSU is now 4-5. Indiana improved to 8-6 as it also defeated South Dakota State 30-8.

"When you're giving up 12 points, you don't expect to win duals. You base everything on individual performances," said SIUE Head Coach David Ray.

Brendan Murphy (133), Dillon Pousson (141) and Cole Brandt (184) led the Cougars with a pair of wins each.

After giving up a forfeit at 125 pounds, SIUE took an early team lead on South Dakota State as Murphy picked up an 11-5 victory over Nick Chavez. Pousson then recorded his sixth pin of the year with a fall in 2 minutes, 16 seconds over Dustin Walraven.

Deshoun White also was victorious against South Dakota State with an 8-4 triumph over Joe Rasmussen at 174 pounds.

Brandt closed out SIUE's scoring with a 9-3 win over Cole Lisek.

The Indiana match opened with the same forfeit and then a pair of Cougar victories. Murphy started with an impressive major decision over Joe Duca 9-0. Pousson followed Murphy with a 7-5 win over Indiana's Matt Ortega. That put the Cougars ahead on the scoreboard for the second straight match.

SIUE would win three of the first four contested matches against the Hoosiers when Kyle Lowman shut out Indiana's Sawyer Morris 7-0 at 157 pounds. Brandt added three team points for the Cougars with a hard-fought 9-3 win over Tony Lisek.

"They wrestled hard," said Ray of his team. "I felt they were hungry for wins."

SIUE now heads to road next Sunday as it takes on Tiffin and Northern Illinois in a triangular meet in DeKalb.
