CHARLESTON, S.C. - Jake Residori was the bright spot for SIUE wrestling Wednesday in SIUE's 41-3 loss at The Citadel.
SIUE dropped to 2-12 overall and 1-2 in the Southern Conference (SoCon). The Citadel improved to 5-4 and 3-1 in the SoCon.
"They (The Citadel) came in with a lot more fight," said SIUE Head Coach David Ray. "We just didn't have it. We looked flat tonight."
Residori picked up SIUE's lone victory with an 8-4 decision over John Duane at 174 pounds.
"Residori found a way to win. He was able to get a five-point move and put his opponent on his back," Ray said.
The Cougars lost four matches by four or less points. Patrick Myers was edged by Aaron Hansen at 133 pounds. Josh Tuck defeated SIUE's Derek Nagel 5-3 at 184 pounds. Chris Johnson dropped a 7-3 decision at 197 pounds to The Citadel's Marshall Haas. Andrew Delaney topped SIUE heavyweight David Devine 6-2.
SIUE's road trip continues Saturday when the Cougars face Davidson, Duke, and Campbell in Lenoir, N.C. The Davidson and Campbell matches are SoCon events.
