CHICAGO, Ill. – The SIUE wrestling team competed in its first dual meets of the 2013-14 season Saturday, as they faced Ouachita Baptist, Arizona State, and Illinois at the Chicago Quad.

The Cougars dropped all three matches, losing 26-15 to Ouachita Baptist, 29-6 to Arizona State, and 38-3 to Illinois.

"We knew it was going to be three tough duals coming in," Head Coach Jeremy Spates said.  "We should've done better (against Ouachita Baptist), but we didn't wrestle the whole match.  We performed better against Illinois and Arizona State, but we knew they were tough teams."

"Deshoun White wrestled well for us," Spates said.  "He won two of his three outside his normal weight class.  David Devine also wrestled tough today."

"I feel like we now know where we're at," Spates added.  "You can only learn so much wrestling in practice.  Now we know what we need to work on, and we'll keep going from there."

Next up for SIUE is the Joe Parisi Open in St. Charles, Mo., next Saturday.  The tournament will be hosted by Lindenwood.
