EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 9 Northwestern improved to 5-1 Sunday with a 36-6 victory over SIUE at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

SIUE's only team points came at heavyweight where David Devine accepted a forfeit. The Cougars fell to 3-7 in dual meets.

"They (Northwestern) are solid from top to bottom, but I think we may have given them a little too much respect," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates. "Technically we were not doing things right, and it snowballed on us."

Garrison White got the Wildcats started with a 5-0 victory over SIUE's Dakota Leach at 125 pounds. Northwestern would go on to have one fall and three technical falls en route to the team victory.

Jake Residori, the reigning Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week, produced the closest match of the day with Northwestern's Lee Munster at 174 pounds. Munster, the No. 9-ranked wrestler in the nation exchanged escapes with Residori and would pick up a 2-1 win with 1 minute, and 2 seconds of riding time.

SIUE's Deshoun White also faced a close match in a 3-1 loss to Jacob Berkowitz at 184 pounds.

"We need to find ways to win those matches," added Spates.

SIUE now has a break before its next action. The Cougars will return to Evanston for the Midlands Tournament Dec. 29-30.
