Box Score DAYTON, Ohio – SIUE women's tennis led from start to finish Friday and captured a 5-0 victory at Dayton.
SIUE, 1-1, captured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Lexi Aranda and Sierra Halverson knocked off Dayton's Carly Peck and Sammi Hornbarger 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Haley Ilcewicz and Kali Donner won at No. 3 doubles, dismissing Dayton's Erin Filbrandt and Claire Herdina 6-0.
"They stepped up and took control from the beginning," said SIUE Head Coach Jason Coomer.
Coomer said that despite the doubles win, he felt the intensity was not at the same level as it had been in the match earlier this week at Missouri.
"That is something we have to correct before tomorrow's match at Wright State," Coomer said. The Cougars face off against the Raiders at 3:30 p.m. ET.
SIUE won every set it finished against the Flyers. Monique Krutak defeated Sammi Hornbarger 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Mia Frogner ran her record to 10-1 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Mandy Merchant at No. 3 singles. Kali Donner swept past Dayton's Katie Shepherd 6-1, 6-2. SIUE's Sierra Halverson downed Claire Herdina 6-1, 6-1.
"These are the type of matches that make a team better," said Coomer.
