EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE wrestling Head Coach Jeremy Spates unveiled much of his 2014-15 roster Saturday night at the Red/Black Intrasquad.
"I'm happy with the way we wrestled. It was a good start," Spates said.
The Black team won the match 16-15. Both the Black team and the Red team won five matches. The difference was a major decision at 174 pounds by Jake Residori. The junior defeated Ben Throm 11-1.
"Jake Residori is our top returner from the conference tournament last season, and he showed why tonight," said Spates.
Newcomers Kenny Baldridge, Angelo Silvestro, and Nate Higgins were winners as were returners Patrick Myers, Karsten Van Velsor, Connor McMahon, Derek Nagel, Cole Rogers, and Chris Johnson.
"Overall, it went as expected. I knew there would be a lot of close matches," said Spates. "There's still some of the basics that we need to work on."
