Kliem Sets New SIUE 10K Record in NCAA Regionals

PEORIA, Ill. – SIUE junior Clint Kliem set another school record in the 10K at the NCAA Regionals in Peoria.

Kliem's time of 31 minutes, 34 seconds surpassed the previous No. 1 Cougar 10K set in 1993 by George Patrylak.

The team finished 22nd overall, accumulating 631 points.

"We were good about getting out and being aggressive," said Head Coach Eileen McAllister. "The overall race was positive and we saw progression from last year, but there is more we could have done better."

Sophomore Keith Meyer recorded a personal best of 31:39.2 and was the second Cougar to cross the finish line. His time puts him third all-time at SIUE.

Scott Woodard's time of 32:21.12 places him 12th on the all-time 10K list at SIUE. Also entering the list was Nick Moore's time of 32:30.3, which makes him 18th all-time. Tyler Owens completed the top five for SIUE, crossing the line at 33:00.5, a personal best. Owens' time puts him fifth on the all-time freshman 10K list.

Freshman Ben Scamihorn also entered the all-time freshman 10K list at 19th with a time of 34:02.2.

SIUE will return all but one runner next season.

"This season opened their eyes to what they could be," said McAllister. "They have already started setting goals for next year. They are by no means satisfied, but they're more aware of what it takes to compete at this level."
